Renault selected Tavares Carlos as Operational Director, and the latest plans of the corporation for the next years were announced with this occasion. The goal of the new director is rather challenging: he has to make the Renault brand a powerful name in both Europe and America but the company also wants to penetrate the Chinese market, especially in the niche of SUVs.
They are also being aggressive with eco-technology since they are planning to add solar panels to the roofs of their factories in France. The solar panel project is the biggest for the auto industry as the solar panels will cover 450,000 square meters and provide 60 megawatts of power that is certainly enough to power 20,000 homes.
The project will get going in June and is anticipated to be completed in February of next year. Their aim is to reduce the effects of pollution and save on electrical costs. There was a similar project started by Seat in their Spanish plants. I was really impressed with the last Renault that I hired from Car Hire France.
Renault is also focusing to repair their image pertaining to industrial espionage. Renault is making every effort to be an attractive brand for the general public and do their best to offer high end cars. The industrial espionage scandal damaged the image of the company but this is only one of the issues. The Renault officials admitted they have a pale image and the theme of some of their cars is somewhat obsolete.
Once Renault brought Laurens van den Acker in as a chief designer, significant changes were observed in the new concepts of Renault. An example of this is going to be the next generation Clio with its state of the art electronics and enhanced body and engine.
Additionally, Renault sold 150 000 automobiles of medium and superior class in 2005 and the sales from last year scarcely got over 100 000. The new line of Renault cars are not expected to hit the market until the 2014-15 season, they need to do their best to exploit those cars that sell well in their current line. The press in France believe that Renault ought to make an effort to smooth out the large divide between their partner, Nissan in the amount of cars sold as Nissan has sold over four million cars while Renault has sold 2.6 million cars.
Another area that Renault is seeking to resolve is their lack of any presence in the Chinese market as they look to establish themselves in 2013 to 2016. On top of that, they do not have any sort of presence in the United States since they departed decades ago. Although they currently dont have any plans to reenter the US market, they have been looking to maximize their positions in Russia and Brazil. So far, they havent had much success in India but carry on and produce for this market with newer and enhanced car models.
To sum up, the objective of the firm is to grow the annual sales by more than 400 000 units but this goal can only be achieved if the company brings new design innovations with their existing and upcoming line of cars.
