What Does The Future Hold For Cars

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

When it comes to the future and the way forward when it comes to main transportation a lot of people still believe in cars. Is this really the case or are there other things out there that the majority of people could use?

Monorail

This ideas is a bit old hat but it could still come into force in the near future if people wanted it still. If you remember the Simpsons it does not work at all well but in DisneyWorld it works very well indeed and Monorail’s are great to ride. It is not really that different from a subway train apart from the fact is is above ground meaning you would not have to change much, you could build it above highways very easily indeed.

Teleportation

This one is just not going to happen at all because the technology does not exist, if it did it would certainly replace the car. So many different companies would go out of business if this was brought into play which means it will not happen. This would be a great way to travel but would take years to test. What would happen to all of those lease cars

Flying Cars?

This one is not going to happen again because of all of the damage it may cause and crashes that would happen, airlines would also be out of business. Although it would be cool to drive a flying car like in Back to the Future, it is just not going to happen. Could you imagine the gap insurance costs on this!

Cars are actually constantly evolving anyways which means that they are going to be the main way of transportation even hundreds of years down the line, surely nothing can topple the car?.

So there you have it, I think the range rover sport 3.0 TDV6 is going to carry on for a number of years.

Coming Soon: THE FUTURE! or Where The Heck Is My Flying Car?

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

I can remember it like it was yesterday, it’s a beautiful spring day in 1993 and I was sitting in my 3rd grade study room.  We received children’s science magazines and discussing all the wonderful devices inside that were due in, THE FUTURE!  Larger PCs, smaller PCs ( and even less expensive ones ), cameras with little screens that showed the photograph you snapped, powerful games systems with-wait for it….16 BITS!  Whatever those are!  The most important thing that really stuck with me though, was the automatic automobile.  It had something like a GPS built in, where you would program in coordinates and the car would follow those directions.  How it would sense other cars, traffic lights, and stop signs, I haven’t any idea and it actually failed to cross my mind at the time.  The vehicle was meant to start on it’s own and drive to your destination, essentially chaffering you.  And for whatever reason there would be a microwave in the dashboard.  At the end of the description was the sentence, Even a 7 year old would be ready to drive! Why, I was seven!  That meant when this vehicle came out in the near future, I would be ready to get one!  Ecstatic, I awaited the day my fabulous automatic auto would roll off the line.  And waited, and waited and here I am seventeen years after and the nearest thing to an automatic car is a strip of road in japan that uses magnets to drag your car.

I do not get it.  I am not currently in THE FUTURE, where’s all the hi-tech stuff?

Firms have been advertising all of the incredible things they’ll be putting out in THE FUTURE since their inception, yet perhaps only 1 percent of them ever reach the public.  More if they’re heavily reworked.  Why publicize something and guarantee to the general public, but then not deliver?  Duke Nuk’em for good anyone?  In fact , the self driving auto has promised to the general public as far back as 1939.

Im actually undecided what to think about it, I will understand getting truly truly excited about a project simply to have it not pan out.  But it’s’s been over eighty years-where’s my goddamn car?!  There are so many high tech gadgets and products that have never been released, that there are whole blogs devoted to all the wacky things we should have owned.  Or that we probably did manage to have, but the product turned out to suck so much that the company went under.  A good example of this were  ‘videophones’, literally telephones with a little screen showing you the person you were chatting to, and have actually existed since the sixties.  Obviously their very high price and terrible visual quality have lead them to be almost non-existent.

One telephone product advertised but we sadly didn’t see was the ATT wrist phonephone in 1993, or truly all versions of the wrist phone.  I suspect purchasers ultimately didn’t want to seem like secret agents occasionally mumbling into their sleeves.  I think we’ll be more comfortable with that on our space resort being handed a mimosa by our robot house maid.  Right before we chow down on our DNA data tablet and duplicated food ( Hopefully MIT will perfect that  ‘Cornucopia:Digital Gastronomy project soon ).

Then again, they could just show up in different forms.  Scientists have been attempting to create a safe exaggerate since the sixties.  Last year we saw the appearance of E-Cigs, all three hundred or so brands.  Or they may evolve, like cd’s into minidisks and minidisks into trash.  I do not know, we probably will not have underwater towns or a gizmo we walk into that gives us a bath in a beam anytime soon…Or ever.  More than anything, I just desire my automated car.  Then turn that automobile into a time-traveling auto.

Then go back to 1993 and give my seven years old self that automatic car, so causing a paradox that will eventually untangle time and implode the universe.

But damn it, I may have that automatic vehicle.
