All vehicle manufacturers are cutting models that do not fit in anymore. After 2011, there probably will not be another Ford Ranger produced in The United States The light pickup by Ford has barely received more than a little cosmetic upgrade for over a decade. There was a reason for that, as the Ranger was typically the best selling light pickup on the market. Ford has decided to let the Ranger go, and the truck will no longer be made after 2011. The company is deciding to focus instead on the Ecoboost equipped F-150 as the option for a fuel efficient pickup.
The Ranger has had its prime
Throughout the 1990s, the Ford Ranger was incredibly popular. It was really the best selling light pickup in North America. There was a reason for that. It was everything an individual could want in a truck. It was priced thousands lower than a full size. It also got quite decent gas mileage. It was known for reliability. The Ranger was also equal to any task on or off road. Other light truck makers, like Toyota Motors, upgraded light pickups to include crew cabs and more seating, which began to seal the fate of the Ranger. In 1999, according to Wikipedia, Ford sold more than 348,000 Rangers. That was the high water mark. By 2009, sales had slipped to 55,000.
The Ranger will cease to be
The clear choice for Ford was either redesign it or make something new. But Ford went with another choice. The truck is getting redesigned for overseas markets, according to USA Today, but the new version will not be accessible in the U.S.. Ford could be trying to push the turbo V-6 F150 instead. However, the F-150 costs several thousand dollars more than the Ranger. Fleet sales have been the bulk of Ranger sales for the last few years running.
Oh, plus a facility is shutting down
In addition to closing the book in the United States on a formerly very well-liked truck, Ford is also shutting down the facility that produced it. The truck is in the firing line, and the plant goes with it. Ford will shutter the Ford facility in St. Paul, Minn. Ford did make an effort to give the truck a facelift. The company tried a crew cab Ranger model, however found it would sell better with a different name. The Ranger technically lives on, however the new name it was given is the Explorer Sport Trac.
