Balance is an important sense which degrades once we age, so it is imperative that you gain a truly fantastic sense of balance inside childhood. One way to do this is with the use of a balance bike, a balance training instrument for children which also makes an incredible toy.

If you’ve ever noticed yourself walking a bit hesitantly down stairs or feeling a tad wobbly up a steps, don’t worry, it’s normal. As we get older our sense of balance can drift. In the elderly any loss of balance can bring about a fear of falling and resulting dread of heading out or living alone.

The good news about pretty much everything is that it may be prevented. Balance is a skill which may be learned, but the best defence against a loss of balance is the thorough acquisition of that skill while very young.

The sense of balance is also referred to as equilibrioception. It’s the sense we use to stop ourselves falling over, especially when we’re walking. To achieve balance a number of our bodies systems have to figure together, especially the eyes, which tell us where we’re, and the ears, which by sensing velocity, tell us how we’re moving. Add to these your body’s sense of where it’s in space and the end result is balance.

Most of us get getting some sort of sense of balance through doing; by walking around. But since balance degrades having age, having a great sense of balance in the first place can make a difference to later quality of life.

So how can all of us improve our children’s good sense of balance? One way to accomplish this is through balance training so that as always this is most successful if approached while play.

Balance begins early. Babies must balance to sit up and especially to stand and walk, so they can be all set to take steps prior to we think.

A  pushbike is the perfect balance training tool since it encourages children to play and leads them gently to balance at their own pace.    Push bikes are like normal pedal cycles, but have no wheels or chain. They should be just the right size for a child to use so they can sit on the seat with their feet in the ground. At first they walk the bicycle the to sit and push along with their feet, then finally to take their feet from the ground a cruise along, completely balanced on the two wheels. Very little actual ‘teaching’ is involved, children (even very young children) often get the idea within a few hours of use.

There are many models to choose from including both metal and     wooden bikes . Often made to mimic a motorbike, it’s a great addition for your child’s fantasy play earth and won’t be seen as a training tool, but as a comfortable plaything. These make great primary bikes. In contrast, a metal balance bike looks more like the a true bike, but is usually significantly smaller, low to the ground and very light weight, with adjustable handlebars as well as seat. These  toddler bikes have detachable pedals, they can be used as balance bikes prior to the child is ready, then they can control you as a first, full pedal cycle.

Riding a bike is not just great training in stability, it’s also good work out, so balance bikes can enhance your son or daughter’s life at every point. They are a fun toy in childhood as well as teach balance. In adulthood bike riding as well as other activities which require stability are safer. As your child strategies retirement, a good sense associated with balance will help your ex enjoy their well earned leisure and increase their well being.
