While color, design and cost may be a part of your decision about which helmet to buy, consider the protection the helmet offers, and how it fits as more important. The most protection you can get is from a full face helmet. One of the benefits of full face motorcycle helmets is the shield that protects the eyes. Racers prefer full-face helmets for the added protection and comfort.
A three-quarter, open-face helmet is also a choice of some riders. It is constructed with the same basic components, but without the face shield. If you use a helmet that has an open face, you can use a snap-on shield that will shield your face from air born objects whilst riding.
Normal glasses, whether shaded or not, are definitely not enough. So do not use.
Then you have the shorty, which is a half helmet, and this provides the least protection. We don’t recommend these for the obvious reasons.
There are a lot of good motorcycle helmets for sale today, in a range of prices.
Just check them out at a dealer or on line. Many manufacturers are color-coordinating their helmets with the newest motorcycle models.
The days of weighty, big helmets are truly gone. Today’s helmets are made from advanced lightweight materials. Manufacturers are also working to make them less expensive, stronger and more comfortable.
Wearing a motorcycle helmet does not have to be old fashioned. You don’t have to be unfashionable in your choice of motorbike helmet. But remember also to be safe and seen. Drive conservatively. Assume others on the road do not see you.
Always drive on the defensive. Always be prepared for the unknown.
